Tunkel, Joseph

(1881-1949)
   Russian Yiddish humourist and cartoonist. He was born in Belorussia. In 1906 he went to the US, where he edited the comic magazines Der Kibitzer and Der groyse Kundes. He returned to Warsaw in 1910 and became editor of Der moment. In 1939 he fled to France and in 1941 to the US. He wrote under the pseudonym 'Der Tunkeler'.
